Myanmar known as Suvanna Bhumi (the Golden Earth) in the olden days. And also today, for its glittering golden pagodas everywhere Myanmar is known as the Golden Land. Myanmar is the largestcountry in the South East Asia Peninsula. It shares borders with Bangladesh, India, China, Laos, and Thailand.

Yangon, the capital city, is the main gateway to Myanmar. Founded by King Alaungpaya in 1755. Over 350 sq km in area, with a population of over 5 millions. The name of Yangon means "End of strife." Evergreen and beautiful lakes, Yangon has earned the name of "the Garden City of the East".

Mandalay

Mandalay, the last capital of the Myanmar Kings, is located in the central Myanmar, 668 km north of Yangon. Also known as Ratanabon - Nepyidaw (meaning Gem City) , it was built in 1857 by King Mindon. Being rich in monasteries and pagodas, it is still accepted as the arts and cultural heart-land of Myanmar.

Bagan

Bagan is the main tourist attraction in Myanmar. A historic capital, Bagan, known as city of four millions Pagodas, is the richest archaeological site in Asia. The temples, stupas and pagodas of Bagan are the most impressive. It is situated on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwaddy river about 193 km south of Mandalay.

Inlay Lake

Inlay lake, the jewel of Shan State, is located about 30 km to the south of Taunggyi, This vast, beautiful and picturesque lake, sheltered among the hazy blue mountain of 1524 metres, stretches 22.4 km long and 10.2 km wide. The lake itself is about 900 metres above sea-level and shudded with floating islands. Inlay lake is famous for its unique one-leg rowers, floating villages and colourful markets.


Kyikehteeyo

Kyaik Htee Yoe

This mystical pagoda stands on a gold gilded boulder, precariously perched on the edge of the hill over 1100m above sea-level. Kyaike Htee Yoe, the town at the foot of the hill, is about 160km from Yangon. It is an 11 kilometer up- hill climb for the hikers from Kinpun base camp. There is also a steep winding road for 4-wheel drive cars from the base to the nearest point of the pagoda. There are many legends about the Pagoda and the 'nats' or 'spirits'. Kyaik Htee Yoe Hotel and Golden Rock Hotel have modern facilities for tourists.

Popa

Mount Popa

Mount Popa is an extinct volcano and with 1,500 meters the highest point within the Bago Yoma Range.Some 50km southeast of Bagan, is the legendary home of the 'nats' or 'spirits'. The Mount Popa area has also been designed as a National Park, a perfect place for eco-tourism.

Myitkyina

The capital and largest town of Kachin State is an important trade center between China and Myanmar. It is an ideal starting point for excursions to tribal villages, jade mines and the Myitsone River confluence (40-km from Myitkyina), where two Himalayan streams (Maykha and Malikha), the source of Ayeyarwaddy River. There are regular flights from Yangon and Mandalay to Myitkyina.
